For AW19, Rick Owens DRKSHDW imbues the all-American baseball sneaker with the designer’s signature minimal gothic aesthetic. The iconic low top shoe is subverted through Owens’ eyes; rendered in a palette of black and white, it is still crafted from canvas, but coated to create a midnight lustre. Meanwhile, proportion is played with – the rubber sole is upscaled and the tongues are extended – to make a high fashion statement from an historic item of US culture.
