Mats Rombaut, founder of the footwear label Rombaut, launched Virón in Paris in 2020 with Julian Roemer as a more affordable, entirely vegan line. Its sneakers and boots, designed in Paris and made in Portugal, used PETA-approved plant-based and upcycled materials, from leather alternatives made with apple and corn waste to recycled rubber soles, and customers were asked to send worn pairs back so the outsoles could be recycled.
