Larry Leight opened Oliver Peoples on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood in 1987, after buying a warehouse lot of several thousand unworn vintage American frames; the name came from a receipt among them signed 'Oliver Peoples'. Those finely filigreed metal frames set the house style, vintage in spirit and precise in the making. Oakley bought the company in 2006, and it passed to Luxottica, now EssilorLuxottica, when Luxottica acquired Oakley the following year.
