With an initial foray into the world of skateboarding 1997 with not much success, Nike launched Nike Skateboarding in 2002. Their first successful design, the SB Dunk Low, was inspired by their existing basketball shoe design, and slowly allowed Nike to gain eyes in the skateboarding community. Collecting a roster of big-name skaters such as Elissa Steamer and Paul Rodriguez, and releasing the Nike SB Janoski—one of the brand's most iconic skater shoes to date, Nike has made headway as a go-to brand for skatewear.
