Jean Paul Gaultier

Paris France

1982

Considered one of the big names in the global fashion scene for his unconventional themes and provocative motifs, French haute couture and ready-to-wear designer Jean Paul Gaultier launched his first collection in 1976, but founded his eponymous brand in 1982. Initially rising to fame for his creativity and masterful tailoring, which caught the eye of fashion editors at the time, Gaultier established himself as a staple in the realm of fashion for his controversial choices (such as his line of skirts for his menswear collection back in 1984), reinvention of classical fashion pieces (earning the term "Gaultiered"), and the creation of Madonna's iconic cone bra. Today, the brand houses a wide collection, inclusive of high fashion pieces in womenswear, prêt-à-porter collections, and an impressive catalogue of fragrances.
