Simon Feinbloom and his sons Abraham and William founded the Knickerbocker Knitting Mills in Rochester, New York, in 1919, and were soon outfitting college teams under the Champion name. Its Reverse Weave sweatshirt, developed in 1938, is cut on the cross-grain so that it keeps its length in the wash, and Champion claims the invention of the hooded sweatshirt. Authentic Brands Group bought the brand from Hanesbrands in 2024.
