By Walid

Walid al Damirji, a British-Iraqi designer who had sold an earlier fashion business and run a bakery, started By Walid in 2011 to make one-of-a-kind clothes entirely from antique textiles: 18th-century embroideries, Ottoman and Chinese silks, 19th-century French linens and ecclesiastical robes too worn for a museum. Cut in a West London studio into loose jackets, shirts, trousers and dresses, and now cushions and bags too, the pieces are meant to last several lifetimes.
