Max Braun founded Braun in Frankfurt in 1921 to make radio parts, and after his death in 1951 his sons Artur and Erwin rebuilt it around electric shavers and household appliances. Erwin's design team, which Dieter Rams joined in 1955, made the company a byword for functional German design, from radiograms to the clocks and watches drawn with Dietrich Lubs. Now part of Procter & Gamble and based in Kronberg, Braun is best known today for its shavers.
