Åke Nordin founded Fjällräven, Swedish for 'Arctic fox', in 1960 in a basement in Örnsköldsvik, on Sweden's High Coast, starting with a framed backpack. The waxed G-1000 fabric of his 1968 Greenland Jacket made the brand's name with explorers, and the Kånken of 1978, a boxy daypack designed to spare schoolchildren's backs, became one of the most recognisable bags in the world. Fjällräven belongs to the Fenix Outdoor group.
